Many people have claimed the title of “Father of SaaS”, but the most widely accepted title is that of Salesforce founder Marc Benioff. Benioff is credited with coming up with the idea of SaaS back in the late 1990s and has been a driving force in the development of SaaS ever since. He was the first to propose the idea of renting software instead of buying it and has pioneered the multi-tenancy model, which allows multiple customers to access the same software instance while having their data and settings securely separated. He has also been an advocate for open source software, which has helped to drive down the cost of SaaS and make it more accessible to businesses of all sizes. Without Benioff’s vision and leadership, the world of software delivery and consumption would look very different today.
